SEO, explained like you're new to it

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Strip away the acronym and it means one thing: making it easy for Google to understand what your site offers, and easy to trust that you're the right answer. That's it. Everything else is detail.

SEO in one picture: search engines read your site, judge it, and rank it.

How a search engine sees your site

Google sends a program (a 'crawler') to read your pages the way a very fast, very literal visitor would. It notes your titles, your headings, your text, how fast the page loads, and whether other sites mention you. From all of that it decides which searches you deserve to appear for.

The three things that actually matter

  • Clarity: every page says plainly what it's about — one topic, one clear title, headings that make sense out loud.
  • Health: the page loads fast, works on a phone, and has no broken pieces. Google measures this directly.
  • Trust: real useful content, honest claims, and over time, other sites linking to you.
You don't 'trick' Google anymore. You make the genuinely clearest page about the thing you do — and that wins.

What you can check today

Search for your own business name — do you appear, and does the little description under your link read well? Then search for what you sell plus your city. If competitors appear and you don't, your pages probably aren't saying clearly enough what you offer and where. That's fixable — and it's exactly what our free audit measures.
